YMF Community Service - Waianae Mountains Watershed Partnership in their Firebreak Project.  November 21, 2015.  Waiane Kai Forest Reserve.  8:00am to 4:00pm.  Tasks will include cutting down invasive Haole Koa trees and planting native plants.

March 2015

Community Service - Paepae O Heeia Community Work Day.  March 14, 2015.  8:30am to 12:30pm.  Heeia Fishpond.  The YMF will be assisting in the restoration efforts of Heeia Fishpond.  Work may include wall restoration or the dismantling of fish pens.  

Outreach Event - Webling Elementary School STEM Night.  March 12, 2015.  5:30pm to 8:00pm.  Webling Elementary School.  The YMF will be hosting 5 science experiments to encourage students into the exciting field of engineering.  The YMF is looking for 10 volunteers to to help run the experiments.

Social Event - BBQ.  March 2, 2015.  7:00pm to 10:00pm.  Kamamalu Park.  The YMF will be hosting a BBQ social during the YMF softball game.

On Monday, March 2, 2015, ASCE YMF Hawaii hosted their Fourth Annual BBQ Social at Kamamalu Park against Community Planning & Engineering (CPE). Over 45 people were in attendance, playing and cheering on both teams. Pushing through a friendly rivalry, the ASCE YMF Team prevailed for the win. Afterwards everyone gathered for the polish dogs, fresh veggies, chips, dip and great company! Thanks for all who came out!

Outreach Event - Manana Elementary School STEM Night.  February 27, 2015.  5:30pm set up, 6:00pm to 8:00pm event.  Manana Elementary School: 1147 Kumano Street, Pearl City, HI.  The YMF will be hosting 4 science experiments to encourage students into the exciting field of engineering.  The YMF is looking for 10 volunteers to to help run the experiments.

On February 11, 2015, 15 ASCE YMF members attended a presentation on structural best management practices (BMPs).  Topics of the discussion included:  definition of Low Impact Development (LID), new Honolulu LID requirements and available products in support of LID design.   A big mahalo goes out to Mark Metzger of Ferguson for hosting the event and Gary Kong of Hawaii Water and Drainage System for graciously taking the time to educate our members on LID design.

















Community Service - MATHCOUNTS. February 7, 2015.  8:30am to 11:00am. Kamehameha Schools.  MATHCOUNTS  is  a  national  math enrichment,  coaching  and  competition  program that promotes middle school mathematics achievement in every U.S. state and territory, and is one of the most successful education partnership  involving  volunteers, educators, industry  sponsors  and  students  in  America. The competition is opened to 6th, 7th and 8th graders, and the participants are known as Mathletes. If you are interested in volunteering please contact Lori Higashi at lhigashi@ascehawaiiymf.org.

Social Event - Makapuu Lighthouse Hike. January 17, 2015.  8:00am to 9:00am. Makapuu Lighthouse Trail.

On Saturday, January 25, 2015, the YMF Hawaii hosted its Fourth Annual Hike at Makapuu Lighthouse Trail. There were 9 attendees comprising of YMF members, friends, families and a dog. The hike started on a cool, sunny 8:00 a.m. morning. ASCE provided water and light snacks.

The Makapuu Lighthouse Trail is a mile long paved path with panoramic views of the south eastern neighbor islands of Molokai and Lanai. At the summit, crystal clear views were seen of Kailua and Waimanalo on the eastern shore and Sandy Beach Park on the south shore. Attendees were treated to humpback whales seen splashing and spouting. Thanks to all who came out!
